Why do young people become radicals? Why do they leave for war in foreign countries or join extremist groups ignoring their parents’ tears? How do parents make mistakes and how to fix them? Activists, women, doctors, teachers, spiritual leaders and authorities from the three most remote mountainous districts of Tajikistan – Lakhsh, Darvoz and Ishkoshim, sought answers to these questions together with IWPR Tajikistan representatives. In Garmchashma area of Ishkoshim district, more than 40 khatibs and imam-khatibs from various cities and districts of the republic, the Ismaili caliphs, representatives of the Christian and Protestant churches, scholars, representatives of media, khukumats and international organizations gathered for a free discussion. The topic of the discussion was “Unity as a factor of solidarity and peace in society”.

IWPR Tajikistan trained 71 imam-khatibs during the trainings in the cities of Tursunzoda, Khujand, Konibodom. The imam-khatibs from border districts, representatives of local authorities, the Committee of Religion, Regulation of Traditions, Celebrations and Ceremonies under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Centre for Islamic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan participated in the trainings.
